Sub-Committee Reports Fundings: Be sure to mark Thursday March 12 on your calendar to pick up your cookie and muffin order. Curriculum: We are currently exploring ways in which we may help to provide support in mathematics for children at home. We are in the process of developing a math pilot project involving 12-15 randomly selected Grade 4 families. The project will include a package consisting of two math activities and an evaluation form. It is hoped that this will lead to the development of similar packages for all grade levels. Communications: We are investigating ways in which we may further develop the volunteer remedial programmes offered at our school. We will keep you posted as to our progress. Liaison: We are looking at the prospect of providing a fun and uniquely Canadian outdoor activity for our students to enjoy during recess time. Stay tuned for more information next month! |
Fundraising: The School Council has accepted an invitation on behalf of Sawmill Valley Public School to take part in a Penny Drive as a fun way of raising funds to support literacy and the new South Common Branch Library. This event is scheduled to coincide with Education Week. No refrigerator can have enough magnets to secure all those prized student accomplishments and important school notices! We are looking at having refrigerator magnets made to highlight our website address, school phone number and safe arrival line. Sexual Abuse Prevention ProgrammeSawmill Valley will be implementing the Peel Sexual Abuse Prevention Programme this school year. The programme will be taught this Spring to students in grades one and four. Parents will be invited to a parent information session on April 21st prior to the introduction of the programme to the students. Surfing??? Our resident computer whiz, Mrs. Rusynyk, has been diligently updating our website on a regular basis with stories from "The Magic Beetle Bug" to Spirit Bear news and beyond. Check it out on this site. |
Parents’ Corner We would like to express our thanks to all those parents who took the time and interest to attend the Mathematics Curriculum/ Quest 2000 workshop and information evening on February 26th! Based on the evaluations received from the evening, it was well received. We are currently examining the comments and suggestions for future use. We would also like to send bouquets to all those volunteers who made it possible to personally contact every Sawmill Valley family regarding the parent information night. A feat well done indeed! 7:00PM Items for agenda to be forwarded to Kim Tucker by Mar. 30th.
