
This Fall, two of our Sawmill Valley Primary Classes studied pigs and other farm animals at the Royal Winter Fair. Here are some of the stories they have to tell.
Farrowing Unit: The piglets are sleeping under the warm light after eating. |
Making Sure At the Fair I saw a Farrowing Unit. A Farrowing Unit is so the sow doesn't hurt her piglets. A Farrowing Unit has a metal bar that goes up and forward and down around the mother pig. When the piglet is older and gets taken away from its mother's milk, it is called a weaner. By Taryn (Grade 2) |

Too Big, Too Small We saw the farmers taking boards and trying to push the big pigs into cages. I felt bad because they put them in the cages. The cages were small. By Keenan (Grade 1) |

Some Advice: Do not stand behind a cow |
Showers and Dryers At the Royal Winter Fair we saw a cow getting showered. First the farmer led the cows to the showering room. In the showering room the walls were covered in plastic. The floor was wet all over. There were lots of showers on the walls. The blow dryers dried the cows when they were wet. By Alannah M. |

Duck, Duck Dog At the Royal Winter Fair we saw a hilarious Dog Show. There were dogs chasing ducks. The dogs made the ducks duck down to go through a tunnel and a bridge. It was incredibly funny. By Michael and Emel |
