Terry Fox Run
|
|
Terry Fox was a great man. He tried to accomplish what no man had ever done - run across Canada. Terry didn't just try to do it for the record. He did it to raise money for cancer. When he was halfway across Canada, he had to stop. The cancer from his leg had spread to his lungs. After his death people started to run in honour of his name. Every year, people around the world raise millions of dollars for cancer research. By Deryck (Grade 5) (Art) Lawton (Grade 5)

Terry Fox had his leg removed when he was 18 because of cancer problems. After that, he wanted to run across Canada to raise money for the Cancer Society. He started training and in 1980 he began his Marathon of Hope. Terry overcame many obstacles and averaged 47 km per day. But once he reached Thunder Bay he had to stop because of lung cancer. Sadly, he died. Even today we celebrate Terry's dream with the Terry Fox Run. People raise hundreds of dollars in this event and many people from around the world participate. By Robert (Grade 5)

I think that this is a great comment because it is totally true. If everyone had a little bit of Terry Fox in them, I think the world would be a better place. Terry Fox gives us lots of determination to always try our best. Matt and Leon (Grade 6)

Terry Fox was a proud Canadian. He wanted to raise money for the cancer fund. As he went through all the different provinces, everybody cheered him on. Terry probably felt really proud about what he was doing for cancer research. He ran the farthest in the Marathon of Hope. Even seventeen years later, people remember what he did and they continue the run. Everybody has a special spot in their hearts for Terry. Tyler and Alicia (Grade 6)

Terry Fox believed that you should never give up on a dream if you want to succeed. Succeeding can be one of the greatest rewards in life. Once you succeed you can beat anything. Instead of sitting around, start turning your dreams to reality. Jessica and Alexi (Grade 6)

Terry Fox not only left money for the Cancer Fund but he also showed us courage and strength, that if we try anything is possible. When we feel like giving up we should just remember Terry and that he never gave up and neither should we. He also left hope that "someday the hurting will stop". Terry will be remembered in our hearts forever. Christina (Grade 6)

The young man was an inspiration, not only to his family, not only to Canadians, but to everyone else in the world. He set tiny goals which he did not forget. He wanted to run across Canada but was jeld back by cancer, Every step, Every stride His eyes filled up with pride, Only stopping to sleep. He did not give up on his journey. There was nothing to lose and everything to gain. Others started when he was sick. He will always be remembered in our hearts. He believed that everyone was equal in their own way. But we look up to Terry. By Jesse and Shawn (Grade 6) |

Terry Fox was brave enough to attempt to run across Canada even though he had an artificial leg. He didn't care about the pain even though it probably hurt him more than we could ever imagine. When you have to get your leg amputated the pain would probably be excruciating even after the amputation. This is a symbol of how brave Terry really was and how we should really try to be more like him. He was special. By Kristen K. and Jaymee M. (Grade 6) |

Terry Fox had a dream. His dream was to run across Canada and raise money to cure cancer. Terry Fox's goal was to receive $1 from every Canadian. Terry Fox ran for another reason. He wanted to show us what people with cancer can do. He wanted people to be strong and believe that they could do anything they wanted to do if they only tried their best. Lots of people now throughout Canada are inspired by Terry's run. By Andra O and Michelle C. (Grade 6) |
