Clay Skates by Rob L.

The Clay Pit

Have you ever thought of using chopsticks to make your own shoes out of clay? Well, our Sawmill Valley Grade Fours did at the George R. Gardiner Museum Museum of Ceramic Art.

We took a big bunch of clay and rolled it into a cylinder. We had to make sure it was not too thin. We used our thumb and pushed it into the back of the clay. Then we hollowed out the inside with the chopsticks to give it the form of a shoe.

When I first touched the clay, I thought I wouldn't be able to make the shoe. I made a pair of skates!
