Jess and the Runaway Grandpa

by

Mary Woodbury

Jess' best efforts to protect her beloved neighbour "Grandpa Ernie" have really backfired this time. It will take every item in Jess' school bag/survival kit and a whole pile of bravery if she and an old man with Alzheimer's are to come out alive from a crash in the Alberta wilderness.

What I Liked I liked the part when Jesse really took care of Ernie and she helped him to survive. It was very unique how the author explained that particular part.
What I Felt
About the Main
Character
I especially like Ernie's character. Not only was it sad to see him go through all that trouble, but yet it was also so funny how he demanded whatever he wanted and got it.
The Novel was suspenseful
I Chose This Word I think it was suspensful because the author kept on putting new ideas in the reader's head.
The Author might change I think the author put in too much unneccesary information.
New Information
I Learned
I learned one important piece of data. I learned that Alzheimer disease means a person loses memory.

The Novel was suspenseful
I Chose This Word The reason I chose suspenseful was because I never ever wanted to stop reading.
The Author might change No but I think they should write a sequel to Jesse and the Runaway Grandpa.
New Information

What I Liked I liked this book but it was so sad. I mean how sad can you get? Okay... First her cat dies, then you find out that Ernie is very sick and he doesn't know Jess's name. Then Jess' best friend acts like a clown. Then she gets into a car crash and almost dies! Then her mom gets worried that Jess is dead because her dad ran away to Ontario. Jess gets attacked by a bear! I mean this is a good book but its very sad.
What I Felt
About the Main
Character
All I can say is Jess is a very strong person
The Novel was a tear-jerker

The Novel was suspenseful
I Chose This Word The reason I chose suspenseful was because the story was mostly a happy story in most cases but in some it was sad.

What I Liked I like it when Jess and Ernie were in the wilderness and Jess did not just take care of herself but took care of her grandfather who had Alzheimer's.
What I Felt
About the Main
Character
Jess had just lost her cat Midges and did not want to lose her next door neighbour too. She tries her best to keep her most loved grandfather alive. I think she had a loving soul.
The Novel was true to life
I Chose This Word I thought the book was true to life because people do really get Alzheimer's and some of them do runaway and sometimes don't get found for a few hours.
The Author might change There is nothing I think the author should change.
New Information
I Learned
I didn't think Alzheimer's could get so serious.

About the Main
Character
The main character was Jess. I really liked her because she never gave up or lost any hope.
The Novel was suspenseful
I Chose This Word This is a suspensful story because you never know what is going to happen next. The weather was always changing and it was exciting to see how Jess would survive her next adventure.
The Author might change I really think that this book was really well written and there is nothing that the author needs to change.
New Information
I Learned
I really didn't know much about the disease that almost took the life of Grandpa.
